Ledger Unveils Atom, a $849 Android Signer With Tamper Protection

October 15, 20263 min read

Ledger unveiled Atom, an Android touchscreen device that the company calls a signer rather than a wallet. It costs $849 and is slated to ship in summer 2027. The announcement came days after hardware implants were found in wallets sold through an Asian reseller.

What exactly did Ledger show?

Atom looks like a smartphone, with a 6.77-inch OLED screen, a rear camera, a 4,000 mAh battery and a Qualcomm Dragonwing chip. It runs the open version of Android next to a separate Secure Element chip with Ledger OS. The device has a data-only eSIM and can exchange encrypted messages with other Atom owners.

According to Cointelegraph, the company also promised approvals for AI agent requests and post-quantum cryptography. That set is unusual for a plain hardware wallet, which is why Ledger does not want the product called one.

The gist: Atom pairs an ordinary Android phone with an isolated module that signs transactions separately from apps.

How does it work inside?

The idea is a split into two worlds. Android handles convenience, meaning apps, the camera and messaging. Everything that touches keys happens in a "Secure Mode" running on the Secure Element.

  • Isolation: the display and touch controls are physically separated from Android while the user confirms an operation.
  • A privacy switch mechanically cuts power to the camera and microphone.
  • The packaging and enclosure carry tamper-evident features that show whether the device was opened.
  • Atom will be sold only through Ledger's official site.

So a malicious app might compromise Android but would not reach transaction signing. At least that is the design.

Why did the announcement land now?

A few days ago Ledger confirmed that wallets sold through the authorized Asian reseller CryptoBilis contained an implant. According to Decrypt, it captured recovery phrases during setup and sent them out over LTE. Investigator Specter estimated losses above $86 million across Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tron.

The company asked distributors in six Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong to suspend sales. European retailer MediaMarkt also pulled the devices from shelves. New reseller rules ban keeping wallets on display and require handing them to customers at the point of purchase. Returned devices must never be resold.

Ledger said its infrastructure was not compromised and that the problem was limited to one reseller. Asked whether Atom's protections were built in response to the incident, a spokesperson said the work was not a reaction to isolated cases and gave no development timeline.

Where does Solana come in?

Atom's home screen will carry the Seeker app from Solana Mobile, which combines a wallet with a store of more than 1,500 decentralized apps. Until now that store ran only on Solana Mobile's own Seeker phone. Ledger became the first partner to which Solana Mobile opened its software stack for another manufacturer.

"Having the Seeker app on Ledger Atom from day one just makes sense, so Ledger users get access to the Solana ecosystem without giving up any of the security."

- Ian Rogers, chief human agency officer at Ledger, from the Ledger and Solana Mobile release of October 15, 2026

For Solana this is one more distribution channel. According to Solana Mobile, Seeker has handled more than $13 billion in volume and 154 million transactions, and the company has sold more than 200,000 devices.

Is Atom worth waiting for?

For now it is a promise. Ledger named the $849 price in its announcement to Cointelegraph, and shipments are not expected before summer 2027. Until then, buyers are left with the current models.

The practical lesson is simpler and useful today. Buy Ledger from the official store, and never start setup on a device whose packaging looks tampered with. A recovery phrase is shown to no one and typed nowhere except the device itself.
